National Diploma in Computing (Level 5)
Aim of course: To provide students with the skills to qualify for entry to middle level positions for a diverse range of IT job roles across the industry.
Student outcomes:
- To understand computer/ Internet fundamentals.
- Knowledge of computer hardware components and assembly.
- Configure and administer a Local Area Network.
- Understanding DBMS and database administration.
- Operation of multi-user computer system.
- Understanding of software development process and computer programming.
- Knowledge of computer programming using 3GL, Object Oriented Language and in GUI environment.
- Knowledge of computer application testing.
- Understanding of role of IT in business and ethics and professionalism for IT industry in New Zealand
Entry requirements:
- Completion of secondary schooling or equivalent.
- A good ability of English language (requirement of IELTS of 5.0 or above OR TOEFL 550 or above OR an on site interview with a qualified NCBT staff member.
- Level 4 Certificate in computing or equivalent qualification OR passing a computer aptitude test conducted by NCBT*
* Computer Aptitude test will be administered in case where:
- A student can not provide evidence of Level 4 Certificate in Computing or equivalent but claims that they have the skills through work experience in the computing field.
- It is difficult to assess the level of an unknown qualification.
